Know Your Mighty Writers: Anthony “Tony” Oliver
School: People for People Charter School (800 N. Broad St.)
Grade: 7th
Talents I’m proud of: “My drawing skills, and my grades; I always get good grades.”
His writing: “Sometimes, when I’m in the mood, it’ll be easy. When I’m distracted, I can’t write.”
What distracts him: “When people keep talking. And teachers, when they say something funny, they make me laugh and I get distracted.”
Approach to work: “If you keep at it and just get it done, you can move onto the fun stuff.”

“I want to study architecture.”

For fun: “I like being outside. I’ve been skateboarding four years now. I like hanging out with friends and also relaxing alone at home.”
Favorite subject: “Science, because we do fun experiments with random things, like food. This week we had to do a food tasting experiment with Jellybellies. We observed the colors and flavors and recorded whether they tasted right or not.”
College plans: “I want to study architecture, maybe somewhere in Philly. I’d like to live in a dorm though.”
Dream: “To build a lot of big buildings, and make indoor drawings, too. Maybe I’ll build a whole city! I’d have the roads be all straightaways and all of the blocks really big.”
Biggest fear: “Spiders. It’s not what they do, it’s how they look!”
Best friend’s description:: “I’m goofy; my friend Ivan agrees. He goes to Mighty Writers, too. He also says I’m generous.”
Tony lives in South Philadelphia with his grandparents and 16-year-old sister. A Mighty Writers regular, Tony maintains a lighthearted attitude in the face of challenging work.
