Who influenced you to care about writing? Two middle school English teachers.
How did they do it? Mostly through praise, I suspect.
What was the last book you read? “The King Must Die,” by Mary Renault (1957). Marvelous, exquisitely written novel that ties Greek mythology to archeological research.
“Anything we can do to help our kids articulate ideas will give them a better shot at living good lives.”
Favorite thing to write now: Praise for other writers.
What makes someone a Mighty Writer? I haven’t been with MW long enough to give a good answer, but anything we can do to help our kids articulate ideas will give them a better shot at living good lives. Writing is really just disciplined thought put down on paper. It’s the disciplined thought that really matters.
What keeps you coming back to MW? A bit presumptuous to answer this one, considering I’m still an MW novice, but it’s knowing that MW really uses its volunteers creatively and actively… and again, that great feeling that comes from knowing you’ve given time, energy and support to a kid who really needs it.
