Mission
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” —Maya Angelou
Mighty Writers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with plans to open free-to-all storefront writing centers in Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. We connect city students with established and emerging writers and develop confidence and self-expression through one-on-one tutoring and writing workshops in fun and dynamic neighborhood spaces.
All our programs are designed to be imaginative and fun, and emphasize the value in critical and creative thinking.
Kids who come to Mighty Writers learn that writing well requires responsibility, accountability and patience—and that when you write effectively and persuasively, confidence follows and moves you toward your goals.
Our guiding principle is that success is best achieved with clarity of thought—and there is no more direct route to success than being able to express yourself through words.
Our all-volunteer army of tutors works with enrolled students both one-to-one and in collaborative settings. Short and long term goals are defined, special projects planned and bonds formed.
Our first Mighty Writers center is located on Christian Street at 15th in the heart of one of Philadelphia’s most historic neighborhoods.
Our goal is to open more storefront Mighty Writer centers in the city’s neighborhoods.
Like our Christian Street digs, all our centers will be designed as enlightened, optimistic and nurturing havens where dreams can be articulated freely and the “yes we can” culture can thrive.
Please, stop by and see us anytime.
