Mighty Writers is a registered 501(c)(3) Philadelphia-based nonprofit with plans to open free-to-all storefront writing centers in the city’s neighborhoods.
Our first storefront center is at the corner of 15th and Christian in one of Philadelphia’s most historic neighborhoods.
How does one become a Mighty Writer?
Be a student in Philadelphia between the ages of seven and 18. And fill out our application. (Click here: “Be A Mighty Writer.”)
What goes on at a Mighty Writers writing center?
Lots of writing. We tutor kids one-on-one and have lots of collaborative writing workshops (see “Workshops,” left). We even make homework fun.
Who are the Mighty Writer tutors?
Volunteers, all—editors, writers, journalists, bloggers, photographers, videographers, teachers and lots of other smart people who like to write.
What hours are you open?
During the school year we’re open for drop-in tutoring and homework help Sun. through Thurs. 3 to 6pm. We also have specifically scheduled writing workshops, content and times can be found in “Workshops,” left.
How does Mighty Writers do this stuff for free?
Mighty Writers is a nonprofit. We get program funding from grants, from our fundraisers and from really nice people who believe in what we do.
