Free Writing Workshops for Spring ‘10

Frog & Toad Workshop (Ages 5-8) FULL
Sundays 3-4pm
April 11, 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16
Using the classic “Frog and Toad” book series by Arnold Lobel, we’ll have a blast! If you like acting, arts and crafts or MadLibs, this workshop if for you! If you’re curious about Human Bingo, idioms or puppetry, come check us out! Workshop is limited to 15 students.

Poetry Matters (Ages 10-13)
Thursdays 6-7:30pm
March 18, 25; April 8, 15, 22, 29
We’ll read expressive poetry from famous people, Mighty Writers and kids from around the world. Then we’ll write poems of our own. But only about stuff that matters. Workshop limited to 12 students.

Garden Writing Club (Ages 10-13)
Sundays Noon-1:30
April 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; June 6
Spend Sunday afternoons with us in the Wellness of You Community Garden at 15th & Christian learning and writing about plants. Workshop limited to 12 students.

Where I’m From: Writing Your Neighborhood (Ages 12-16)
Mondays 6-7:30pm
April 12, 19, 26; May 3, 10, 17
What does it mean to be from somewhere? How do you fit into your neighborhood and surroundings? Do you fit in or stand out? Together, we’ll discover what our neighborhoods look, smells and sound like. Workshop limited to 12 students.

Writing Movie Reviews (Ages 12-16)
Tuesdays 6-8pm
April 6, 13, 20, 27; May 4, 11
Do you like movies? Do you like to let others know what you think? Students will become entertainment critics and publish their own movie reviews. And of course, in order to get better at writing about movies, we’re going to have to watch some movies! Workshop limited to 12 students.

Writing on Fire (Ages 12-16)
Thurs. 6-7:30 p.m.
May 6, 13, 20, 27; June 3, 10
We’ll explore what it means to write on fire, with passion, using examples from Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451.” Workshop limited to 12 students.

Writing My Life (13 and up)
Sundays 1:30-3pm
April 11, 18 and 25; May 2
What foods, smells, tastes and names make up your life? Do you notice the poetry of the everyday in the lists you make? Ever thought if your hair contributes to your personality? Come explore the magic in the everyday, the hidden art behind your life. Workshop limited to 12 students.

Teen Writers Lounge (Ages 13 & up)
Wednesdays 6-8pm
April 7 to June 9
This teen lounge was designed for our Wednesday night regulars, their friends and anyone new who would like to join in the fun. We’ll take field trips to local theaters and museums, invite local actors and poets into our space and sometimes just chill with our favorite pieces of writing. Unlike workshops, the Teen Lounge is open to everyone. Come see what we’re about. No sign-up needed.
