Girl Power - Get in Formation
For Philadelphia students ages 10 to 13
Tuesday, 6:30-8:00pm
May 9, 23, 30; June 6 (four sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

If you could change one thing in your community, what would it be? Who would be on your change team? Now, let's get in formation. We'll write action plans that bring our hopes and dreams to life. Unleash the power in you through the magic of poetry. Under the direction of Dr. Suzanne Stutman, author of the collection "All the Power Rests with You," discover your voice through the music of poetry. Expand your awareness of yourself and the world around you.

Breaking Through Writer's Block
For Philadelphia students ages 10 to 15
Sunday, 4:00-5:30pm
May 21 & June 4 (two sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

You know that moment when you are staring at a blank screen and wonder, "What now?" The challenge to answer that question is writer's block. In this workshop, we'll introduce you to a variety of exercises and techniques to get your creative juices flowing again. Summer Workshop - Mighty Toddlers
For Philadelphia students ages 2 to 5
Fridays, 10:00-11:00am
June 30-Aug. 18 (eight sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

Come and spend a few hours in educational fun with your toddlers. Taught by Kimberly Garrison, Philadelphia actress, mother and entrepreneur, this weekly play session is family fun. Bring your toddlers and prepare to have an amazing time learning with your Mighty Toddler.

Summer Workshop - Mighty Inventors
For Philadelphia students ages 7 to 9
Mon.-Fri. 5:00-6:30pm
Aug. 7-11 (five sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

In this class, we'll let our imaginations run wild to invent gadgets and products that no kid's room is complete without. We will write descriptions of our inventions and create "patent applications" explaining the inventions and what makes them original. Finally, we'll write a script for a commercial that introduces our invention to the world and perform our commercial on-camera. Instructor: Rachel Kipp

Summer Workshop - Cooking with Kids
For Philadelphia students ages 8 to 12
Mon. to Thurs., 4:00-6:00pm
July 17-20 (four sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

Cooking is a great way for families to practice communication, bond and create new memories. For families affected by autism and food allergies, cooking takes more work but the rewards are even greater. Join author Erica Daniels for a family cooking workshop featuring allergen-free recipes you can make at home. Everyone will receive a copy of her book, "Cooking with Leo," in which she shares recipes and wisdom.

Summer Workshop - Picture This Girl
For Philadelphia students ages 9 to 12
Sundays, 2:00-3:30pm
July 9, 16, 23, 30 (four sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

The story of girls’ lives can be happy or sad, frustrating or triumphant. In this series, we'll explore girls’ stories in the National Archives. We'll look at photographs of real girls in history, searching for clues about what each girl’s life was like. Then we'll write creatively about their lives, and see what we have in common! Summer Workshop - Ghost Stories
For Philadelphia students ages 9 to 12

This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

We'll share our scariest stories and give each other goosebumps! We'll learn how to structure a story, and techniques for describing the things that go bump in the night. And once we're scared silly, we'll head to Old City Philadelphia for a historical ghost tour. Please plan to join us in Old City Philadelphia on Thursday, July 13 at 7:30pm for the ghost tour! Summer Workshop - Books to Blues
For Philadelphia students ages 10 to 12
Mon.-Fri. 2:30-4:00pm
July 17-21 (five sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

Meet revolutionary and often under-appreciated musicians from days past who changed society with their music and their beliefs. We'll examine the work of John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield and many more. Then we'll uncover the social impact of these musicians by learning about their actions and writings. By the end of these six sessions, we'll build a portfolio of letters about each artist and create original songs of our own. Instructor: Shanise Redmon

Summer Workshop - My Fem Memoir
For Philadelphia students ages 11 to 13
Monday to Thursday, 4:00-6:00pm
July 10-13 (four sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

A memoir is a collection of memories, a first-person account of what it is like to be YOU. We’ll talk about the reasons people memoirs and personal essay, and we’ll read examples of memoir writing from the poetic to the comic, including Claudia Rankine, Esmeralda Santiago, Marjane Satrapi, Jacqueline Woodson, and Jennifer Finney Boylan. We’ll tell our stories in our voices for our reasons, and we’ll learn to give and receive nurturing feedback on writing about personal experience. Instructor: Amelia Longo

Summer Workshop - Power to the People
For Philadelphia students ages 12 to 17
Mon.-Fri. 3:00-5:00pm
Aug. 7-11 (five sessions)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street

How do you declare yourself a revolutionary? How do you craft a clear message of protest and resistance? Students will read and watch examples from The Black Panthers, to Assata Shakur, to Black Lives Matter, then craft their own declaration. On the last day of class, we'll bring the protest right to City Hall. Workshop leader: Peggy Kern
