Mikala Jamison
Employed: Managing Editor of the Star, a community newspaper.
Hometown: Hockessin, Delaware
How long have you been a Mighty volunteer? Since October 2012.
What do you do at Mighty Writers? I’m instructing my second workshop, “Girls Who Rule the World,” for 11—13 year old girls. We talk and write about the issues we face—friendships, stereotypes, the media and a lot more.
What did you like to write as a kid? I always loved to write in journals and I wrote little fiction stories constantly.
In your opinion, what makes someone a Mighty Writer? People who understand how difficult writing can be, but write anyway, because it brings so much joy to the author and to the world.

Tell the World about Your Hero
February 5th, 2013
Mighty Writers is inviting all Philadelphia school students (grades 3-12) to be published in “Heroes,” our first MW book!
At Mighty Writers, some of our heroes are young adult fiction author Jerry Spinelli, Spiderman, First Lady Michelle Obama and Quvenzhané Wallis from “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
Now, it’s YOUR turn.
Simply write 200 or more words to answer the following question:
• Who is your hero and why?
• Include your name, age, and an email address and phone number where we can reach you.
When finished, submit your essay for consideration to hello@mightywriters.org.
Deadline: April 30, 2013.
