StoryUP!
For all Philadelphia students ages 5-9
Sunday, June 30, 2:00-3:15pm
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
In a rare free appearance, StoryUP! and the Philly Improv Theater (PHIT) join forces to present an interactive storytelling show where Philly’s finest improvisers create a funny and magical hour of adventure based on ideas and stories from kids in the audience.

Fun with Words
For all Philadelphia students ages 6-8
Sundays, 2:30-4:00pm
July 7, 14, 21, 28; Aug. 4, 11 (6 sessions)
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
Playing detective, we’ll find words inside other words. What’s inside of ARITHMETIC, DICTIONARY, or ENCYCLOPEDIA? Next up: Fun with homonyms! If you talked to a BOAR, would he be a BORE? If you sat on a STAIR, would you sit and STARE? If you waited for DAYS, would you be in a DAZE? If you waited a WEEK, would you be very WEAK? Join us to discover how much fun we can have with words you see every day.

Mighty Inventors
For all Philadelphia students ages 7-9
Tuesdays, 6:00-7:30pm
July 9, 16, 23, 30; Aug. 6, 13 (6 sessions)
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
In this class, we’ll let our imaginations run wild to invent gadgets and products that no kid’s room is complete without. We will write descriptions of our inventions and create “patent applications” explaining our inventions and what makes them original. Finally, we’ll write a script for a commercial that introduces our invention to the world, and then we’ll perform our commercials on camera.

Mighty Heroes (8-10)
For all Philadelphia students ages 8-10
Monday, July 1, 4-6pm
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
Join us in the cool studio to meet some other Mighty Writers from around the city and pen a letter to your ultimate hero. One hundred letters will be selected for publication in Mighty Writers’ first full-length book, “Heroes.”

Garden Stories
For all Philadelphia students ages 8-10
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00-6:00pm
July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 & 25 (6 sessions)
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
In this whimsical workshop, students will look at the Mighty Garden with new eyes as we imagine main characters taken from our garden lessons. We’ll pretend we’re plants, bugs and garden animals as we learn how to tell stories from different points of view. In the end, we’ll tell stories from our own perspectives to reflect a greater understanding of all of the participants in the Mighty Garden.

Books to Blues
For all Philadelphia students ages 10-12
Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00pm
July 10, 17, 24, 31; Aug. 7, 14 (6 sessions)
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
Meet revolutionary (and often under-appreciated) musicians from days past who changed society with their music and their beliefs. We’ll examine the work of John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield and many more. Then, we’ll uncover the social impact of these musicians by learning about their actions and writings. By the end of these six sessions, we’ll build a portfolio of letters for each artist and create original songs of our own.

Poetic Experiments
For all Philadelphia students ages 11-13
Mondays, 6:00-7:30pm
July 8, 15, 22, 29; Aug. 5, 12 (6 sessions)
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
In this fast-paced, energetic workshop, we’ll experiment with language and poetry. We’ll write collaborative poems together, borrow words from other writers and use language games to find inspiration. We’ll also have fun and gain an appreciation for poetry that is surprising, fresh and new. Some of our experiments might fail, but they’ll all produce sparks and flashes of creativity.

Young Authors Workshop
For all Philadelphians ages 13-22
Monday, June 3, 6:00-8:00pm (single session)
This workshop will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
Seven cities, four YA authors, one epic road trip — and they’re stopping at Mighty Writers. YA authors Erin Bowman, Susan Dennard, Sarah J. Maas and Kat Zhang are on a multi-city tour and are hosting a free workshop for young, aspiring writers. Mighty Writers is proud to host a Philadelphia workshop, where we’ll spend the evening having lots of writing fun.

They Made My Story into a Movie!
For all Philadelphia students ages 14+
Thursdays, 6:00-8:00pm
Mar. 14, 21; Apr. 2, 11, 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 23 (10 sessions)
This class will take place at 1501 Christian Street.
Have an idea you’d like to see on the screen? Take the first step with writer/director Anthony Giunta, whose new film “Contest” will be coming out this spring (watch trailer here). We’ll show you how a screenplay works, including concept, characters, structure, outline, dialog and much more. We’ll share our stories and talk about what it would take to turn them into real movies.
